KUALA LUMPUR – The 126-year-old Penang ferry service will continue, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz told the Dewan Rakyat today.
The RM30 million allocated by the previous Pakatan Harapan government will be released to Penang Port Sdn Bhd in two tranches next year.
“The government will ensure that Penang Port continues Penang’s iconic ferry service,” he said.
Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) thanked Tengku Zafrul and the government for the decision.
The double-decker yellow ferries are a Penang landmark, plying the channel there on their 20-minute journeys daily.
It was reported earlier that the ferries would sail their last course on December 31, after 61 years of service. – The Vibes, December 17, 2020
